Little is known about John. He died quite young while still a single man. The only clue I found is in the warranty deed when the farm was sold in 1897. It simply says that John was “in the care and custody of his mother and that the expenses incurred during his last sickness and death were taken care of by his mother”, Grietje. The phrase “last sickness” implies there was more than one.
